  2. thankyou for this post. I had spent the early afternoon in the summerhouse reading up on the weekend papers after the departure of my beloved family. the article that took my eye was on this very subject of dinner parties and how we cope with them. It was very funny and instructive!

  12. Seeing this portrait of Agnes, with Arthur lurking on the right, reminded me of those many awkward dinner parties I attended at their home in Newport.

  19. Oh, my. I'm morified. I must check my glasses. I could have swore the painting was called Drummer!!! something. So that is why I rambled the way I did.

Most people are too young to know what a "drummer" is. I promise I will pay more attention next time. I looked and looked at this picture with Drummer in my mind!!!

At least I know there will be no other like this one.

    Thanks for the fun.

  20. So okay, you posted another irresistible painting and I followed it right here like a mouse with the Pied Piper and put down a few words that it said to me so I could escape over the hill.. I'll be back later to explore the width and span of all the poetic takes on the subject. Thank you, Magpie&Tess.

  27. I am having great difficulty this week accessing Magpie sites and I have no idea why. Yesterday the side bar would not move for Kathe, Hank, JJ, or Kay and today the same problem at Willow Manor and Bee's Blog. Is it my computer or something else? I will keep posting sites I cannot access. Sorry, people. =(
