    1. It's by Christophe Gilbert. You can visit his site and see it at full size. Stunning.

And here is my take on the story: Coma Berenices. Perhaps somewhat less stunning.

  5. I would not recommend using an image for which you do not have the artist's name and therefore permission -to i know if i saw one of my photos being used on a site without credit I'd be steamed. Therefore i'm going to extract myself from magpie. Sorry -when it comes to art , just like writing, you have to give credit where it's due or you don't use it.

    1. Can't agree here - if people make an image and put it online, then it's in the public domain. It'd be just a silly saying you can't sing a song you've heard on the radio unless you acknowledge the one who wrote it! If art is not meant to be shared, what is its purpose?

    2. No no! The pic/poem etc isn't in the public domain unless the author says it is. Surely we have to trust Tess to use only pictures which we are all free to use or which are licensed under the Creative Commons terms.

  7. I found the pic via Google Images, but can't quite remember what I "searched" for. Something like "White woman, black men" This led me to a Yahoo "age restricted" group which sounded dubious - BiW Lifestyles. The home page for this group featured the picture, but without attribution.

  8. It is a beautiful and very inspirational image as always, Tess! And as for whether or not to use images that are available online... I believe you are doing your very best to give credit where credit is due!

  10. Tess, you had me stumped all morning. But I couldn't leave my computer. I drank a pot of coffee and put on some music and here I am, rubbing the kink out of my neck. Thank you for making me forget chores!

    1. Brian, if you feel uncomfortable using the image, then I suggest not posting it on your blog.

    2. it has little to do with comfort, i just want to know that you own them or there are no copyright issues...if they are covered under creative commons (which not all are) then its cool...

  30. In the weird way of these things, this photo brought to mind an older effort, which I hope is acceptable. I took my cue from Roy's comment, above, and linked the photo to Christophe Gilbert. It's an awesome work--how do you find these things? Thank you!

  35. Tess - in response to Brian's concern regarding the image, I had to remove the image of Magpie 101. Blogger put it on draft mode and sent me a note saying if I put it back on without removing the image I might be faced with legal action... Just thought you should know.

  39. Tess... I DID have proper crediting. I think some artists want permission to use their materials... ? I don't know. I just hope I'm not being "watched" now... ;P
