  2. This came to me in a flash of a bad memory. Ex-hubby bought me the ugliest first year anniversary gift on the advice of his dad. Yeah, a very bad omen of things that were to come. : )

  3. Early is good, but I can't do the on-my-toes thing any more.

  4. I posted something about avoidance and thought it would go nicely with the mask, which is gorgeous by the way.

  5. Thanks, Rene. I collect African masks and this is one I have on my wall. I thought it might make a good Magpie prompt.

  6. Love when I catch 'em early on... gives the brain a chance to search for the 'truth'.

  7. I had to muse for quite a while over this one.

  8. Ah, the mask, the eternal mirror to the truth. Forget Christmas in July when it is a time much better suited for Halloween and Mardi Gras!

  10. A mask, a smiling but frightening one conjures evil in most instances.

  11. Here after a long time, hope to read some wonderful verses.

  12. I love the mask - this one bounced around for a while before it formed.

  13. I hope never to meet one on a dark night! LOL

  14. I never know where my muse will take me...

  15. Love the mask - thanks for a good prompt.

  16. Yes, I noticed the early posting and thought how it would be nice to try for somewhere in the top 10. However, this was not to be even though I was here at 10 to 9:00 am. I am going to have to keep on higher toes for next week! So I'm 22 place..oh well! (I find those early birds get the worms as well as many fine comments!)

  18. People find these masks creepy - I happen to love them. Great deterrents at times..!!

  19. Each week - a new inspiration plus education!!! The School of Tess.

  20. Sorry Tess, mine has turned into a sort story rather than a vignette or a poem.

    These things just grow.

  21. At first I thought it was another shell, then I realized it was a mask....and the poem began to write itself...

  22. I had a visceral "oh no" when I saw it-- it's such a scary world already, lol-- but I gave it a shot. xxxxj

  24. My wife and I collect masks from Africa, India, and the stunning masks of the Pacific Northwest Haida peoples... love their majesty and their mystery -- nice prompt...

  25. Very interesting, Ms. Kincaid. My response will go up at midnight tonight. Appropriate, I think.

  26. This was fun; touches on many things that fascinate me. Hope the effort is worthy of the prompt. Thank you, Tess!

  28. Good one this. Lots of possiblities. I have had a shot at one of them.

  29. Linky 21 and I are duelling. It's Limericks At Dawn. It's the prompt what started it!

  30. I had difficulty with this particular prompt but I have become addicted to the concept of coming up with at least a poem a week. So this week I picked my own image - a painting I did - and wrote a poem to go with it.

    Poetic license?

  32. Love the whole mask thing! Just a quickie, but the first I've written in awhile. Thanks for priming the pump :o)

  33. Loved the image, masks are something I have written about repeatedly, but this is first effort to do a poem about such!

  34. Beautiful piece of art, Tess...
It just pops up so many thoughts in one's mind...

  35. Tess,

This response to the African mask has an unusual provenance -- came to me unusually.

  36. Some odd thoughts, this created, and no mistake...

  37. Thank you for another entertaining prompt.

  38. Took me a while to get my head around this one, strangely enough... Thank you for the prompt and the opportunity!

  39. I'd just like to comment that I've been doing Magpie for a while and really enjoyed it until "Lucy Westenra" http://luciewestenra.blogspot.com/ left a really rude comment on my blog. This is supposed to be a supportive community of writers, not tearing people down criticizing things like what font and whether or not they capitalize. I'm disgusted at her behavior and thought you should know.
